Rohit Sharma: The Hitman of Indian Cricket
Rohit Gurunath Sharma, born on April 30, 1987, in Nagpur, India, is a cricketing icon renowned for his elegant batting and aggressive style, earning him the nickname “Hitman.” A right-handed opener, Sharma has redefined white-ball cricket with his record-breaking performances. He is the only batsman to score three double centuries in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), with his 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014 standing as the highest individual ODI score. His five centuries in the 2019 Cricket World Cup further cemented his legacy as one of India’s finest batsmen.

Sharma’s journey began in Mumbai, where financial struggles didn’t deter his passion. Spotted by coach Dinesh Lad, he switched from off-spin to batting, excelling as an opener. His international debut came in 2007 against Ireland, but it was his promotion to ODI opener in 2013 that transformed his career. Leading India to the 2024 T20 World Cup victory, he retired from T20Is as India’s most successful captain in the format, with 49 wins.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Sharma’s leadership shone as he captained Mumbai Indians to five titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020). Off the field, he supports animal welfare as WWF-India’s Rhino Ambassador and a PETA member. Married to Ritika Sajdeh, with two children, Sharma balances stardom with humility. Despite retiring from Test cricket in 2025, his ODI prowess continues to inspire millions.
